About the event

Learn all you need to know to get started needle felting and create a starter set of wool dryer balls. I will teach you how to use needle felting techniques required to create your own set of 3 wool dryer balls, decorated as whimsical bees and/or lady bugs.

Needle felting is the art of binding raw wool fibers using a specially barbed needle. Continued, deliberate poking of the wool allows the fibers to firmly lock onto one another, thereby creating a more solid and lasting fabric. In this session you will learn to sculpt as you felt, building up the fibers and finally adding the final details.

Wool dryer balls should be a little larger than the size of a tennis ball and take a lot more wool to create than many felted sculptures due to the firmness needed. They make an excellent alternatinave to chemical dryer sheets; and they last longer too! When felted correctly, dryer balls can last up to 5 years, keeping your clothes fresh and helping them dry more quickly. Add several drops of essential oils to dryer balls (such as lavender, lemon, rose) if you prefer a post dryer scent!

Tuition includes a full beginning needle felting kit (normally 3-6 hours to complete) with all the materials you will need to create 3 wool dryer balls. Students should be prepared to be seated for 3 hours with breaks as necessary. Extra materials will be available should you prefer to make only one type of the offered designs. At the end of class you will take your project and your kit home with you.

Children 8-12 are welcome with an added fee to adult tuition to cover tools an materials for 1 extra dryer ball; making a total set of 4. Additional children can be added (up to 3 per adult) where space is available. Children over 12 are welcome will full tuition payment and will receive a full beginner kit. If you would like to bring a child under the age of 13 but prefer an entire kit, please purchase a second full tuition.

Hal Holmes Community Center is located in the heart of downtown Ellensburg within walking distance of many local shops and eateries. Snacks and beverages are not available at this location, though you are welcome to bring something along.

Registration closes June 4th

We require a minimum of 8 full tuition participants in order to run this class. No cancellations are available but tuition is transferrable. Refund will be provided should class cancellation occur.
